This curry dish was originally made from the left-over meats from the farmer`s Sunday lunch, usually a huge affair. The slaves` use of spices and the custard topping influenced by the settlers who came from the Netherlands combined to produce a signature dish not only the Cape, but also in the rest of country. Turmeric provides a lovely yellow color. The dish is traditionally topped with either fresh curry leaves or bay leaves.
