The stuff of nightmares, Eunice aphroditois can reach up to 3 m long and 3-4 cm in diameter. They are nocturnal, but even then remain mostly hidden in their burrows, protruding about 5-10 cm with their wicked trap-like jaws held wide open waiting in ambush. They attack anything that passes close enough to its lair with such speed and ferocity that prey is often sliced in half, hence Bobbitt worm.
