Salto del Gitano, the absolute highlight of the magnificent Monfrague National park, is one of the best birdwatching experiences in Europe. A huge rockface carved out by the river Tagus and a large observation platform allows for great views. The blue rock thrush, Monticola solitarius, nests in rock cavities and walls and eats a wide variety of insects and small reptiles in addition to berries and seeds.
