Taken on January 25, 2020, from Warwick Drive atop Red Mountain looking down into Jones Valley where the city of Birmingham lies. Born due to the proximity of the 3 main ingredients in making steel - coal, iron ore and limestone, the city`s early rapid growth earned it the nickname `The Magic City`. This nickname was supplanted by `The Tragic City` after the bombing of the 16th Avenue Baptist Church which left 4 young Black girls dead. Much has been done to clean up the city`s image, along with its air quality. For many decades Birmingham had a smoky haze over it due to the steel industry. But with stringent air quality guidelines and improvements in technology to clean the air, Birmingham has much cleaner air as this photo indicates.
