Besek is a basket made of woven bamboo which is used by Javanese people to carry food. In Yogyakarta, besek is widely used as a container for kenduri rice for residents who are having a celebration, as a container for Gudeg rice like those often found in Wijilan or for wrapping souvenirs. The basin is a fairly hygienic place and does not contain chemicals. Apart from that, the bamboo basket also has a small air gap so that the food does not spoil quickly.
