Kramgasse (the street from where this picture was taken) is the central axis of Bern's old town. This street, nested with shopping arcades and ancient houses is completed by the Zytglogge - the watch tower and now one of the main landmarks of the city. From 1191 to 1250 the Clock Tower was the city's western gate, and with the city expansion it was later used as a prison. The famous astronomical clock was install only in 1530 by Caspar Brunner.
