The barn swallow Hirundo rustica is a small migratory bird belonging to the swallows family Hirundinidae. It is the most widely distributed swallow species in the world, and can be found in Europe, Africa, Asia, the Americas and Northern Australasia. It is the only species of the genus Hirundo whose geographic range includes the Americas, with most species of this genus being native of Africa.
