Before AP Giannini started his famous Bank of America it was the Bank of Italy. Born to Italian immigrants, Giannini was the first banker to loan money to `the little people`.
After the Earthquake and Fire of 1906, the Bank of Italy was one of only a few still handing out loans to the people.
Although Giannini changed the name from Bank of Italy to Bank of America in November 1930, it still has the same charter number today.
Today the ground floor is occupied by a haberdasher.
