San Francisco has a rich history of music and musical entertainment going back to the Gold Rush era. This really became a very big industry during the late 1950's when home televisions were becoming more common, and people can see in their own home many of the new pop music icons. And more and more of these pop music icons were from right here in San Francisco. To commemorate this, then mayor Willie Brown in 1997 kicked off the community effort of placing plaques in the Civic Center area to the individuals and groups who have made San Francisco their home, this cities version of Hollywoods 'Walk of Fame'. The Bammie's,which stands for Bay Area Music, hosts their own awards, was awarded to a local musician,in this case Sammy Hagar, whose father was an abusive alcoholic, bought his first guitar out of a Sears catalogue and taught himself how to play by the time he was only 14. When the was 23,married and with a young child,he claimed to have this very strange dream, for which he consulted a psychic, who advised he return to San Francisco,'where fame and fortune will await you'. The fame and fortune did come, with him being in several successful bands,as well as a solo career, plus doing very well in businesses, including restaurants, bar and a bike shop. As seen 23 March 2023.
