Khortytsya is the largest island on the Dnieper, located within the city of Zaporozhye below the Dnieper rapids now at the Dnieper hydroelectric power station. For the first time Khortytsya was mentioned under the name of Fr. St. Gregory in the treatise `On the Administration of the Empire` by the Byzantine Emperor Constantine VII Porphyrogenitus compiled in 946-953. In 2007, Khortytsya was named one of the `Seven Wonders of Ukraine`.
