This beautiful and colorful Australian native bird is called a King Parrot, formal name Alisterus Scapularis. This is a female and is very different coloring to the male. The male King Parrot has a bright red heart, breast, lower undersides and a blue band around the neck. They are found on the Eastern Coast of Australia from as far north as Cooktown in northern Queensland down to Port Campbell in Victoria. They are stunning birds and often called by other names such as Red-Winged Parrot, Red Wing Parrot. Australia has many different native parrots in their wildlife birds. This little female King Parrot was feeding upon the cherry tomatoes in our home vegetable patch garden.
