Pictured is a marble statue by an unknown artist titled `Athena-Minerva` . It was funded by the North Texas Female College and Kidd-Key Music Conservatory class of 1898. The monument committee chose a statue of Athena Minerva because Sherman was known as the Athens of Texas in reference to its many schools and colleges.
