Atashgan Monument (Marbin Fortress), on the top of the hill located in the west of the centre of Esfahan. The archeological complex of a Sassanid-era, located on the top of Atashgah hill on the border of Esfahan. Originally, the place got name „Maras or Marabin“ after a village in the neighbourhood. One part of the complex are the ruins of a citadel of about twenty buildings. Several buildings in the cluster have a classic char taq four arch floor-plan, characteristic of Zoroastrian fire temples of the 3rd century onwards and that are the actual atashgahs that housed sacred fires. On the very top of the hill are ruins of rounded building, like a tower. The locals know this tower as Burj-i Gurban, or Burj-i Kurban, Tower of Sacrifice. The original purpose of this construction was probably military watch tower.
