An ancient volcano is a term for a volcano that was once active, but is now no longer active or has died. Previously, the Nglanggeran Ancient Volcano was on the seabed and was lifted up to become the solid rock it is today. It is estimated that this mountain is around 60-70 million years old and was once an active volcano, but died due to a geological process. The death of this mountain is due to the loss of thrust in the magma channel, which causes the magma channel to be cut off from the magma chamber. Because it is no longer active, at this time the Ancient Nglanggeran Volcano is one of the mainstay climbing spots in Gunungkidul.
