Reflected in the golden light of the afternoon, the Pont du Gard, in Provence, France, over the Gardon River, is an 160 foot high Roman aqueduct built to provide water to the city of Nimes from the River Eure near Uzes, in the first century A.D. Used as an aqueduct for over 800 years, the Pont du Gard eventually became a bridge over the river. A UNESCO world heritage site, the aqueduct is an engineering marvel and tourist destination.
