The Women's Coalition for Peace, sometimes referred to as the Women in Black, marches through Jerusalem on December 29, 1989. Well over 4,000 strong, they were comprised of Jews, Arabs, Palestinians, and hundreds from Western Europe. They wanted to see an end to the occupation of Gaza and the West Bank enforced by the Israeli military. Jerusalem city councilwoman Anat Hoffman, front middle joins the group. Hoffman is an advocate of female rights, human rights, and recognition of the positions of the Women of the Wall who advocate for their numbers to pray as a group at the holy Kotel.
