Kayar or Cayar is a small town in central Senegal, close to its capital Dakar. Most of Kayar`s economy and daily life revolves around fisheries. Kayar is one of the municipalities in Senegal with the largest number of artisanal fishermen. These fishermen usually target species such as Sardinella. They fish in wooden canoes called pirogues of varying sizes.
