Pictured is an American white pelican, binomial name Pelecanus erythrorhynchos, landing in Sunset Bay off Pelican Point in White Rock Lake in Dallas, Texas. The American white pelican catches it s prey while swimming and each bird eats more than four pounds of food a day. The fish eaten by the pelican range from the size of minnows to 3.5 pound pickerels.
