Amaryllis is the only genus in the subtribe Amaryllidinae. It is a small, bulbous flowering plant of two types. Amaryllis belladonna is the better known of the two. It is native to the Western Cape region of South Africa, especially the rocky areas of the southwest between the Olifants.
