Alexander Nevsky Church (Petropavlovsk Fortness). At the end of the XIX century, there was no suitable free space left in the Peter and Paul Cathedral for new burials of the highest personages, so in 1896 the members of the royal council decided to build a new Grand Ducal tomb for uncrowned members of the Russian imperial house. Its construction at the Peter and Paul Cathedral for 11 years was carried out by architects D. I. Grimm, A. I. Tomishko and L. N. Benois. The solemn consecration of the new building took place on November 5, 1908 in honor of the patron saint of St. Petersburg Alexander Nevsky.
