Alcochete is celebrating one of its oldest festivities: the Círio dos Marítimos. After a three-year interregnum due to the pandemic, the tradition returned to the streets of Alcochete accompanied by hundreds of people who made a point of watching the first procession of the Círio, the well-known Single and Married Parade that took place this afternoon, April 9, Sunday of Easter. The starting point was on Avenida D. Manuel I, next to the old Dragapor facilities, with the party planner's son and the judge starting the parade. Then the single and married women paraded, mounted on donkeys adorned with flowers and under white sheets. From the decorated carts, pulled by oxen, to the traditional Chininá bagpipe music, there were several characters and moments that delighted not only the outsiders who attended the pilgrimage for the first time, but also the places that fondly remembered times ancient times, in a unique moment of sharing and devotion to Our Lady of Atalaia.
