Albaicin or Albayzín is a neighborhood of eastern Spanish city of Granada, autonomous community of Andalusia. In 1994, the Albaicin was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco as an extension of the monuments of the Alhambra and the Generalife. It began to fill in the time of the Iberians. It is one of the ancient centers of Muslim Granada, with the Alhambra, the Realejo and the Arrabal de Bib-Cleaning up in the flat part of the city. This neighborhood had its greatest influence in the Nasrid era. Albaicin maintains the urban fabric of the Moorish period, with narrow streets, in an intricate network that extends from the top (St. Nicholas) to the river Darro and Calle Elvira, found in Plaza Nueva. The traditional type of housing is the Carmen, consisting of a free house surrounded by a high wall that separates it from the street and includes a small orchard or garden.
