This historic marker sign tells the story of the Star House, a one time dance hall and bar, now a tourist attraction and museum, one of several such signs located along historic Creek Street. Creek Street, famous as the one time red light district of Ketchikan, is now full of craft and gift shops, as well as several restaurants, where dance halls, bars, and houses of ill repute once stood. A popular summer cruise ship port of call, Ketchikan is located at the start of the Inside Passage in southeast Alaska. Known as the Salmon Capital of the World, tourism, timber harvesting, and fishing, both recreational and commercial, are the cornerstones of the local economy.
