In this view looking north from the southern tip of the island of Sardinia, Italy, one sees residential areas of the largest city, at about 550,000, Cagliari, and the distant Sulcis Mountains. The Mediterranean island is exceeded in size in the Mediterranean only by Sicily. In terms of area it is over 9,000 square miles, or slightly larger than the US state of Vermont. The island's pleasant climate makes it a popular tourist destination, and parts of the island are particularly inviting destinations for the ultra-rich.
