Acrocanthosaurus was a type of carcharodontosaurid dinosaur that lived during the early Early Cretaceous in what is now North America. It`s distinguishing feature is a set of neural spines on its back, and its name actually means `high spined lizard`. It was largest theropod of its habitat and was likely the apex predator of North America in an era before T-Rex.
