This is a juvenile Didelphis marsupialis marsupial species, Didelphidae family. Common name: southern or black-eared opossum, common opossum. Found northeast of Mexico to Bolivia. Found in tropical and subtropical forests. The fur of the opossum is actually yellow in the under-fur, but is hidden by the longer black guard-hairs that cover it, while the tail, fingers, and face are lighter. Their activity is mainly nocturnal and terrestrial, with some arboreal exploration and nesting. This is a juvenile, less than a year old. Observed at Cerro Cahuà Protected Biotope, Petén, northern Guatemala.
