Pictured is a raccoon, binomial name Procyon lotor, at the edge of Chokoloskee Bay in Florida. It is also spelled racoon. It is usually nocturnal and omnivorous, eating about 40% invertebrates, 33% plants, and 27% vertebrates. Chokoloskee Bay is roughly 10 miles long and 2 miles wide. It is located along Florida’s Gulf Coast and is separated from the Gulf of Mexico by the Ten Thousand Islands.
