daisy, any of several species of flowering plants belonging to the aster family (Asteraceae). Common daisy names denote oxeye daisy (Leucanthemum vulgare), Shasta daisy (L.×superbum), and English, or properly, daisy (Bellis perennis). These and other plants called asters are distinguished by a composite flower head consisting of 15 to 30 white ray flowers surrounding a center consisting of bright yellow disc flowers, although other color combinations are also common.
