Established in 1956, S.W.RD. It was the first irrigation project started by Bandaranaike's government. It was started in 1958 by damming Hulanda Oya, a right bank tributary of Walave Ganga, at Halmillakatiya. Chandrika Vava, which was started in this way, became an irrigation project through the development of canals and the establishment of an agricultural settlement. In this way, 1800 farmers were settled in 5000 acres of land. This preserves the beauty and self-sufficiency of Embilipitiya.
