A ceremonial elephant stands with its mahout within the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic complex in Kandy in Sri Lanka. As evening approaches the elephant will then be dressed and parade in the Esala Perahera through the streets of Kandy. The Esala Perahera is held to honour the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha which is enshrined within the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and is considered one of the most colourful processions in the world.
