Anyone who knows the Black Country well knows that it is riddled with Canals, Some say it has more miles of canals than Venice, Many years ago the canals were the most used method of transporting goods over long distances long before road transport swallowed them up. To service this very busy method of transportation were a plethora of canal yardsor docks as they were often called where boats could be moored and dry docked to await general maintenence and essential repairs, without them the canal barges would have ground to an halt
