Charles Stanyan was a successful real estate developer, having several homes around the city during the 1860`s.
While being a County Supervisor, he served on the commission that acquired the land to develop what is now Golden Gate Park. Because of this, Stanyan Street, along the East side of the main entrance, is named for him.
This house, built prior to 1868 and originally located at Bush and Hyde Streets, was moved to this site in 1877. Saint Francis Memorial Hospital is now at the location this house originally was.
