A pair of clay Okinawan lion dogs, also called shisa; isolated on white. Shisa is a traditional Ryukyuan decoration from Okinawa mythology. Placed on rooftops or flanking the gates of houses, Shisa are wards, believed to protect from evils. When in pairs, the left shisa has a closed mouth keep good spirits in whilst the right one has an open mouth to ward off evil spirits.
