An original request and permission to read prohibited books, written in italian and latin language in 1793, with seal of the Vatican Authorities . The Index Librorum Prohibitorum (List of Prohibited Books) was a list of publications prohibited by the Roman Catholic Church. The avowed aim of the list was to protect the faith and morals of the faithful by preventing the reading of immoral books or works containing theological errors, although it also contained scientific works about astronomy, chemistry, physics and more. Permission could be granted to scientists, lawyers, theologians, etc.
