National Visual Arts Gallery (or BSVN) is the new name for the National Art Gallery, established in August 28, 1958, a year after Malaysia achieved independence from the British. However, the idea came to be since its inception in 1954 to 1956 by the Arts Council of the Federation of Malaya (Arts Council) anchored by Mubin Sheppard (now Tan Sri) and Frank Sullivan , (he is the administrator of the National Art Gallery as well as the first Secretary of the Board of Trustees BSVN up year 1970). This gallery is a statutory body which receives an annual allocation from the government through the Ministry of Information, Communication and Culture . It also received donations from corporate bodies and sponsors to hold the side art activities.
