Stock Photo: Mount St. Helens Volcano And Spirit Lake 35 Years After Eruption

ID 96193059 © Andreaswass | Megapixl.com

The pyroclastic flow uprooted the trees on the mountain sides. Successively, one side of the volcano collapsed and caused a landslide crashing into Spirit Lake drastically changing its size. It caused a huge wave, sweeping the lower part of the mountains and dragging the beforehand uprooted tree logs back into the lake where they remain up to today. The vegetation is regrowing depending on the former level of destruction. A new cone is forming in the destroyed crater of the old volcano.
