A young female mother orangutan and her very cute baby orangutan eating fresh fruit and vegetables provided by the Orangutan Foundation International at Sepilok Orangutan Rescue and Rehabilitation center, Sabah, on the tropical island of Borneo, Malaysia. The decline of Orangutans in the wild is alarming with the primary factor causing massive decline of populations in the wild is the destruction & degradation of their tropical rain forest habitat. Human activities and development such as illegal logging, burning of forests to convert into Palm Oil plantations, mining and urban expansion. Orangutans are only found on the islands of Borneo and Sumatra, Indonesia. The Sepilok Orangutan Project provides wildlife rescue, sanctuary forests with care & quarantine, full time vets, educate locals on palm oil training programs and practice restoration and sustainability of forests by planting trees. They also offer an international volunteer project, which helps to raise much needed funds to continue with their work. If it was not for organizations such as these, it would not be long and Orangutans would be extinct in the wild.
