Monument to the `Dead of the great army` or `Fallen of the great army` on Borodino field in Central Russia. The monument was erected in 1913 near the famous Shevardinski redoubt on the site of Napoleon`s command post on the day of the battle of Borodino. The monument was made by architect Boeswillwald. The monument was created, brought and put on the field by the French with the consent of the Russian government in memory of Napoleon`s soldiers, officers and generals who died on the Borodino field, according to the Gregorian calendar, 5-7 September 1812. The monument is made in the form of a four-sided granite obelisk of gray color, which rises on a cone-shaped hill. At the top of the monument is a bronze eagle, soaring towards the Russian position. Under the bird on the front face are engraved a Latin cross and an inscription-dedication to the fallen soldiers of Napoleon`s army.
