Aerial photograph of a medieval fortress covered in snow located in Smederevo, Serbia. Built in 1430 under the influence of the walls surrounding Constantinople as a line of defense against the Ottoman empire. Although it still stands the walls have taken large amounts of damage during the Allied bombings in WW1, WW2 and an explosion of the German munitions depot in 1941, with similar detonation strength of the atom bombs dropped in Japan several years later, essentially protecting the town and its inhabitants once again.
