This is an image of a Girdled Silk Moth (Rothschildia cincta). This moth can be found in desert, streamside and canyon habitats in northwestern Mexico and southeastern Arizona. Native tribes in these areas including the Yaqui used the Silk Moth's cocoons to make rattles for ceremonial dances.
