The vineyards of Clos de Vougeot is one of the most famous in the world. The wine growing on this particular parcel was started by some monks from Citeau Abbey (a few kilometers away) in 1098. They exploited the rich soil for wine cultivation and with their fortunes they builded this magnificent chateau, now decorating most of the wine botles. Seriously damaged during the French revolution, the estate was restored in late 19th century. Today the wineyards sourounding the castle are shared between more than 80 growers and their association runs a wine museum in this jewel of Burgundy, France. HDR image.
