Designed as a recreational motor road to connect the Great Smoky Mountains and Shenandoah National Parks, the Blue Ridge Parkway follows the crest of the rugged Blue Ridge Mountains through North Carolina and Virginia. This portion of the road leads to the Linn Cove Viaduct as seen on the left.
