The Palace of the Isle (Palais d'Isle) is the most recognized building in Annecy, France. Constructed to resemble a ship on the Thiou cannal flowing out of the Annecy Lake through the city, the palace has a rich history. From the 12th century, it was used as the residence of the local lords and later as administrative quaters. At some points in history was also used as a fortress and a prison.
