Karo men and women in southwestern Ethiopia live very simply, but they like to decorate their own bodies and spend a lot of time putting make-up on each other. In this photograph, a woman is decorating her friend`s face with small dots made with a light-colored cream that stands out against her dark skin. The woman with her face decorated with polka dots is holding a baby who is nursing from her bare breast. The two women adorn themselves with numerous necklaces of colored beads. In the background of the photograph you can see the Omo River, which gives its name to the valley in which the Karo ethnic group lives
